2010년은 여러분들에게 어떤 해였나요?
저는 올해 텝스 홍보대사가 되어 정말 많은 일들을 할 수 있었어요.
텝스 해외 탐방대 공고를 보고 지원서를 준비하던 일,
제임스와 함께 서울을 보여주며 2차 미션을 수행하던 일.
그리고 최종 관문을 통과하고 영국과 독일로 해외 탐방을 떠났던 일.
정말 텝스를 통해 신나고 즐거웠던 한 해를 보낼 수 있었답니다.

2010년 스포츠에서는 정말 즐거운 소식이 많았죠?
스포츠 팬을 열심히 보는 여러분들은 이미 다 아시겠지만
한국 선수들은 동계 올림픽부터 피파 월드컵,
광저우 아시안 게임 그리고 다른 경기들에서 큰 활약을 펼쳤지요.
특히 여자 선수들이 두드러진 성과를 보여주었어요.
그래서 올해를 한국 여성의 해라고 부를 수 있을 것 같아요!

In the South Korean lunar calendar,
the year 2010 was one of a tiger. But in the sports calendar,
it was a year of women.
서울, 12월 20일 (연합):
한국의 음력 달력에 의하면 2010년은 호랑이의 해이다.
그러나 스포츠 달력에 보면 올해는 여성의 해이다.

South Korean female athletes
put together memorable performances
across many fields, from ice rinks
to football pitches and golf courses.
한국 여성 선수들은 아이스 링크부터 축구 경기장과 골프 코스까지
여러 분야에 걸쳐 기억에 남을만한 성과를 만들어냈다.

A figure skater won the country's
first Olympic gold medal in ladies' singles;
a female speed skater also brought
South Korea its first Winter Games gold
in her discipline; and seven South Korean golfers
on the LPGA Tour combined for nine victories,
while the world's No. 1 female golfer and the 2010 LPGA Tour
money champion are both South Koreans.
한 피겨 스케이트 선수가 여자 싱글에서
한국의 첫 올림픽 금메달을 획득했다.
 여성 스피트 스케이트 선수 또한 그녀의 분야에서
한국에 첫 동계 게임의 금메달을 가져다 주었다.
7명의 한국 골프 선수들이 LPGA 투어에서
9번의 우승을 만들어 냈고 세계 1위 여성 골퍼와
2010 LPGA 투어 상금 챔피언이 둘 다 한국인이었다.

On the football pitch,
South Korea's under-17 team
won the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup,
 the country's first championship
at any FIFA-sanctioned competition.
That came on the heels of a third-place finish
by the under-20 team at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
축구 경기장에서는 한국은 17세 이하 팀이
피파 U-17 여자 월드컵에서 우승하며
피파 주관 대회에서 처음으로 우승을 했다.
그것은 피파의 U-20 여자 월드컵에서 20세 이하 팀이
3위를 차지한 바로 뒤에 나온 것이다.

Figure skater Kim Yu-na got the ball rolling
in February at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Entering the competition as the heavy favorite and feeling
the weight of the entire nation, Kim exceeded lofty expectations.
피겨스케이트 선수 김연아는
2월 벤쿠버 동계 올림픽에서 (이 기록들을) 시작했다.
매우 인기 있는 선수로서 경쟁에 참가했고
온 국민으로부터 중압감을 느꼈지만 김연아는 아주 높은 기대를 넘어섰다.

She was especially clutch
in the short program on the first day.
Just before Kim's turn, Mao Asada, her archrival from Japan,
scored her season best of 73.78 points to take the lead.
Kim took a deep breath and set a world record with a mark of 78.50.
그녀는 첫째 날 쇼트 프로그램에서 특히 긴장된 상황이었다.
김연아의 차례 바로 전, 그녀의 최대 라이벌인 일본의 아사다 마오는
그녀의 시즌 최고 기록인 73.78점으로 선두가 되었다.

She set another world record, scoring 150.06
in free skating the following day,
and outscored Mao by almost 20 points.
Kim's winning total of 228.56 stands as the highest score
in the revamped international judging system.
그녀는 다음 날 프리 스케이팅에서 150.06점을 기록하며
또 다른 세계 기록을 세웠고 마오를 20점 차 이상으로 압도했다.
김연아의 총합 228.56의 점수는 개정된 국제 판정 체계에서

On the long oval in Vancouver,
Lee Sang-hwa made history in speed skating,
taking the women's 500-meter title and becoming
South Korea's first female gold medalist in the sport.
벤쿠버의 긴 타원형 트랙(oval)에서 이상화는
스피드 스케이트 여자 500미터에서 우승하여
그 종목의 한국 여자 최초 금메달리스트가 되며
스피드 스케이팅의 역사를 만들었다.

Kim and Lee helped South Korea post
its best-ever record at the Winter Olympics.
For the first time, the country won Winter Games gold medals
in events other than short track speed skating. Aside from Lee,
 Mo Tae-bum and Lee Seung-hoon each grabbed a gold medal
in men's speed skating. Lee Jung-su
was a double gold medalist in men's short track.
김연아와 이상화는 한국이 동계 올림픽에서
역대 최고 기록을 세우는데 도움을 주었다.
처음으로 한국은 쇼트트랙 스피드 스케이팅 이외의
다른 종목에서 금메달을 획득했다.
이상화 외에도 모태범과 이승훈은
남자 스피드 스케이팅에서 각각 금메달을 잡았다.
이정수는 남자 쇼트트랙에서 두 개의 금메달을 획득했다.

 In March, Seo Hee-kyung became a surprise
first-time winner of the KIA Classic on the LPGA Tour.
Four different South Koreans won four straight LPGA events
from late October to mid-November.
Shin Ji-yai ended the year as the No.
1-ranked female golfer in the world, and Choi Na-yeon finished
with the most prize money and the best scoring average in the LPGA.
They had two victories apiece this year.
3월에는 서희경이 LPGA 투어 기아 클래식에서
뜻밖의 첫 번째 승자가 되었다.
네 명의 다른 한국 선수들이 10월 말부터
11월 중순까지의 네 번의 LPGA 경기들을 모두 우승했다.
신지애는 세계 여성 골퍼 1위로서 한 해를 마감했고
최나연은 LPGA에서 가장 많은 상금과
가장 높은 평균 점수를 기록하며 마쳤다.
그들은 올해 각각 두 차례 우승 했다.

 In the quarterfinals, South Korea matched speedy
and skilled Nigerians goal for goal,
and eked out a 6-5 win in extra time, powered
by Yeo's four goals. In the semifinals,
facing a physical Spain team, the South Koreans built
 a 2-1 lead in the first half and played lockdown
defense to hold on for the one-goal win.
준준결승전에서 한국은 빠르고 능숙한
나이지리아와 골을 주고 받으며 경기했고,
여민지의 네 골에 힘입어 연장전에서 6대 5로 간신히 승리했다.
준결승에서 신체조건이 좋은 스페인 팀을 상대로 한국은 전반전에서
2대 1 리드를 만들었고 한 골 차 승리를 지키기 위해 수비를 굳게 했다.

South Korea met Japan for the championship,
and they went to a penalty shootout.
After South Korea's first kicker Lee Jung-eun missed,
five shooters in a row converted their chances for the 5-4 win.
한국은 결승전에서 일본을 만났고 그들은 승부차기까지 갔다.
 한국의 첫 번째 킥커 이정은이 실축했지만 다섯 사수가
모두 기회를 살리며 5대 4 승리를 거두었다.

Yeo received the Golden Ball as the most valuable player
of the tournament and also the Golden Shoe
as the leading scorer with eight goals.
여민지는 토너먼트의 가장 귀중한 선수로서 골든 볼(Golden Ball)을 받았고
 또한 여덟 골로 최다 골을 기록하여 골든 슈(Golden Shoe)를 받았다.

From mid-July to early August, the South Korean
under-20 women's squad also took the football world by surprise.
South Korea defeated Switzerland, Ghana,
Mexico and Colombia en route to a third-place finish.
 Forward Ji So-yun, affectionately dubbed "Ji Messi" after Lionel Messi,
the diminutive Argentine forward for FC Barcelona, netted eight goals.
7월 중순부터 8월 초까지 한국 20세 이하 여자 팀은 역시 세계 축구를 놀라게 했다.
한국은 스위스, 가나, 멕시코 그리고 콜롬비아를 꺾으며 3위로 끝마쳤다.
FC 바르셀로나의 단신의 아르헨티나 공격수 리오넬 메시를 따라
“지 메시”라는 애정스런 별명을 얻은 공격수 지소연은 여덟 골을 기록했다.

Male footballers had their moments, too.
The men's football team reached the second round
at the World Cup held in South Africa.
It was South Korea's first appearance
in the knockout phase of a World Cup held away from home.
남자 축구 선수들 또한 그들의 성공적인 시간을 가졌다.
남자 축구 팀은 남아공에서 열린 월드컵에서 두 번째 라운드에 진출했다.
이것은 자국 밖에서 개최된 월드컵에서 한국이
처음 승자 진출 단계(knockout phase)에 모습을 드러낸 것이다.

After beating Greece and losing to Argentina in the group stage,
South Korea drew Nigeria 2-2 to make it to the round of 16.
South Korea then lost to Uruguay 2-1
after blowing several scoring opportunities.
조별 예선에서 그리스를 이기고 아르헨티나에게 패한 뒤
한국은 나이지리아와 2대 2로 비겼고 16강에 진출했다.
그러나 한국은 여러 번의 득점 기회를 날리며 우루과이에게 2대 1로 패배하였다.

On the professional circuit, Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma
of the domestic K-League won the Asian Football Confederation
(AFC) Champions League,
the premier continental club football competition.
This was the ninth Champions League victory
by a K-League team and Seongnam's second.
프로페서넬 서킷에서는 국내 K리그의 성남 일화 천마가
최고의 대륙 클럽 축구 대회인 아시안 축구 연맹 (AFC) 챔피언스 리그를 우승했다.
이것은 9번째 K리그 팀의 챔피언스 리그 우승이고 성남의 두 번째 우승이다.

Baseball, the most popular professional sport in South Korea,
enjoyed another bonanza at the gate.
In all-time record of 6.4 million fans attended
Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) games,
 while a slugger and a power pitcher
put on record-setting performances.
한국의 가장 인기 있는 프로 경기인 야구는
또 한번 큰 입장료 수입을 거두었다.
640만 명이라는 전대 미문의 팬들이
한국 야구 연맹(KBO)의 경기를 찾았으며
강타자와 파워 투수들이 기록을 세우는 기량을 보여주었다.

Lee Dae-ho, the hulking third baseman
of the Lotte Giants, led the KBO
in seven major offensive categories, including batting average,
home runs and runs batted in (RBI). He hit home runs
in a world record nine straight games in August.
롯데 자이언츠의 거대한 3루수 이대호는 타율,
홈런 그리고 타점(RBI)을 포함한 7개의 중요 공격 카테고리에서 KBO를 이끌었다.
그는 8월 9경기 연속 홈런을 치며 세계 기록을 세웠다.

Hanwha Eagles lefty Ryu Hyun-jin
led the league in strikeouts
and earned run average (ERA),
and he had a record 29 quality starts in a row,
dating back to last season. A quality start refers to an outing
in which a starting pitcher lasts at least six innings
and gives up no more than three earned runs.
한화 이글스의 좌완 투수 류현진은
삼진과 방어율(ERA)에서 리그 선두를 달렸고
그는 작년 시즌부터 29경기 연속 퀄리티 스타트의 기록을 세웠다.
퀄리티 스타트는 선발 투수가 최소한 6이닝 이상 던져야 하고
3점을 초과하여 실점하지 않는 것을 의미한다.

South Korea's two Major League Baseball players
had memorable feats in 2010. Park Chan-ho,
the country's first major leaguer, earned his 124th career win,
the most by an Asian pitcher in major league history.
He began the season with the New York Yankees
but was released in August. The Pittsburgh Pirates
acquired the right-hander in midseason,
and Park revived his season as an effective bullpen pitcher.
한국의 2명의 메이져 리그 야구 선수들도 2010년 기억에 남는 위업을 쌓았다.
한국의 첫 번째 메이져 리그 선수인 박찬호는
메이져리그 역사상 아시아 투수로는 최다 승인 124승을 거두었다.
그는 뉴욕 양키스에서 시즌을 시작했지만 8월 방출되었다.
피츠버그 파이어리츠는 시즌 중반 이 우완투수를 영입했고
박찬호는 효과적인 불펜 투수로서 부활했다.

Choo Shin-soo, a right fielder for the Cleveland Indians,
set career highs with 22 home runs, 90 RBIs and 22 steals,
along with a .300 batting average and .401 on-base percentage.
his was his second straight season with
at least 20 home runs and 20 steals as a member of the 20-20 club.
He is the first player in the Indians' team history
to notch back-to-back 20-20 seasons.
클리블랜드 인디언스의 우익수, 추신수는 22홈런,
90타점, 22도루와 함께 평균 타율 3할과
4할1리의 출루율로 선수생활 절정기를 보냈다.
그는 최소 20홈런과 20도루를 기록하며,
두 시즌 연속 20-20 클럽의 회원이 되었다.

While no South Koreans won on the PGA Tour, plenty
did well on other tours around the world.
Kim Kyung-tae became the first South Korean
money champion of the Japan Golf Tour, a men's competition.
Last month, Ahn Sun-ju won the money title on the Japan LPGA Tour.
Noh Seung-yul grabbed the Order of Merit
on the Asian Tour as the money champion,
making the 19-year-old the youngest-ever money
winner on the top continental tour.
PGA 투어에서는 한국인 중 아무도 우승을 못하였지만
다른 투어에서는 많은 선수들이 세계 각지에서 선전했다.
김경태는 남자 경기인 일본 골프 투어의 한국인 첫 번째로 상금 우승자가 되었다.
지난 달 안선주는 일본 LPGA 투어에서 상금 타이틀을 얻었다.
노승열은 최고 대륙 투어에서 19세의 나이로
최연소 상금 우승자가 되며 상금 챔피언으로서
아시안 투어에서 공로 훈장을 쥐었다.

South Korean athletes ended 2010 with a resounding performance
at the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
The country picked up 76 gold medals, beating rival Japan
for second place in the gold medal standings and also setting
a record for the most golds by Koreans at
an Asiad held outside South Korea.
한국 선수들은 중국 광저우의 16번 째 아시안 게임에서
굉장한 성과와 함께 2010년을 마쳤다.
한국은 76개의 금메달을 따며 라이벌 일본을 이기고
메달 순위에서 2위를 차지했으며 한국 밖에서 열린
아시아 게임에서 최다 금메달을 따는 기록을 세웠다.

Swimmer Park Tae-hwan won three Asiad golds,
bouncing back from his disastrous performance
at the 2009 world championships. The 2008 Olympic champion
broke his own Asian record in the 200-meter freestyle,
set the fastest time of the year in the 400m freestyle
and swam a personal best in the 100m freestyle.
수영선수 박태환은 2009년 세계 챔피언십의 재앙 같은 성적으로부터
회복하며 3개의 아시안 게임 금메달을 얻었다. 이 2008년 올림픽 챔피언은
200미터 자유형에서 자신의 아시아 기록을 깼으며 400미터 자유형에서
올해 가장 빠른 기록을 세웠고 100미터에서 개인 최고 기록으로 수영했다.

South Korea swept all four gold medals available
in both archery and golf.
Shooters brought home 13 gold medals,
nearly triple their projected total.
The baseball team defeated Taiwan to win gold,
avenging a loss to the same country
at the previous Asian Games that relegated
the South Koreans to bronze.
한국은 양궁과 골프에서 획득 가능한 4개의 금메달을 모두 휩쓸었다.
사격은 13개의 금메달을 가져오며 목표치의 거의 3배를 달성했다.
야구팀은 대만을 이겨 금메달을 획득하며, 지난 아시안 게임에서
한국을 동메달에 머물게 했던 대만에게 패배를 복수했다.

And of course, the most decorated
South Korean athlete in Guangzhou
was a woman: It was bowler Hwang Sun-ok,
who won four gold medals.
그리고 광저우에서 가장 공헌을 많이 한 선수는 역시 여자였다.
그녀는 볼링 선수 황선옥으로 4개의 금메달을 얻었다.
